Puppies in May – Tragic Figures
Sunday, May 24th, 20091.5. Somebody went for a walk on Molos Beach and found 3 tiny puppies there. They were soon going to open their eyes and Biggie decided to give it a try and raise them with the bottle. Two of them have made it.
13.5. 2 pups have been dropped at the Bus Station in Naoussa. / 1 pup is found and reported in Kostos
16.5. 2 tiny pups are found near the new slaughterhouse by the same animal lover who found the last group there less than a month ago.
17.5. 5 pups are found tied into a bag near Molos Beach.
13 puppies found in a month. Let us guess: do they represent 10% of all the puppies actually thrown into holes, garbage bins, on the street in this month??? How many unwanted puppies were really produced this month? How many were not found and had to die hungry and dehydrated in a slow barbarian way?

Monday, May 4th, 2009Farewell Rafina
Monday, May 4th, 2009
Barbaras oldest dog, Rafina, died yesterday. She was 15 years old. Barbara never wanted a dog, she wanted to be free and travel, believed it was too much responsibility to own a dog. Now she takes care of dozens. Boney, kept because he has only three legs, Bessy, kept because she was too old for rehoming and Rita, kept because she has lost most of her lower jaw after being bitten by a large dog, are keeping Rafina company in her last hours. Kalo taxidi, Rafina!
Beautiful dog, terrible condition
Monday, May 4th, 2009
Animal lovers found a male setter in a very poor condition near Ambelas. He was not capable of walking or standing properly, very skinny and full of ticks. The ticks were dead, had been killed with a very strong chemical, probably not used in the proper dilution, therefore his coat had turned yellow. We do not know at the moment, whether his weakness and bad condition are a result of his anaemia due to exposure to such a number of ticks, the poisoning by this chemical, whether he is sick or just starved – or a combination of any of the above. After only 5 days at Barbaras, a thourough cleaning, good food and care he is much better already. He is quite old and he will have a home for the rest of his life with one of the Ladies who discovered him.
Puppies on the beach
Friday, May 1st, 2009Minuscule Grandma found in Paroikia
Friday, May 1st, 2009
A tiny little female, smaller than a cat, 8-10 years old, was found in Paroikia in a desolate condition, full of ticks and with a tangled filthy coat. Animal lovers took her home, cleaned her up but were incapable of keeping her. She has large tumors on her chest which might not be operable due to her age. Mini is looking for a home where she can live happily for the rest of her life.
