A little girl from Paroikia found 6 abandonned puppies in a parking lot. She called Barbara (knowing that in a situation like that her aunt would help)… When Barbara showed the puppies to a friend later on, he insisted that he had seen these puppies before! At the farm where they were born! This is not the first time we ‘catch’ people when they get rid of the unwanted offspring of their dogs in this manner. Something has to be done about this!

Friday, January 16th, 2009The situation in both PAWS’ temporary shelters is getting serious as both locations are more than overpopulated (about 70 dogs including many puppies).
As you may know, currently the only hope for unwanted dogs of Paros is to find a loving home abroad, since there would never be enough homes for so many dogs on Paros. But in this time of the year, expeditions abroad are more difficult and more expensive. The situation will be unbearable before the first volunteer travellers come in spring.
The solution would be temporary foster homes on Paros.
Please, please, consider offering a temporary home to a dog for as long as it would be convenient to you. Call or contact PAWS now!
Noon in the Port of Paroikia
Thursday, January 8th, 2009The little dog that was picked up in the port of Paroikia in a horrible condition could be the Mascot of PAWS for some advertisement and fundraising campaigns in 2009. Therefore we suggest to name her Pawsy.

After some hours of work: the result...
Berta from Kamares is now Tara from Munich
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009Berta was abandoned in Kamares last Summer and was then rescued by Barbara and rehomed in Munich.
NOW BERTA HAS BECOME TARA.
The current situation I
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009The current Situation II
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009These dogs and puppies plus approx. 10 cats are currently staying at Biggies. Florian from Germany is taking care of these animals as long as Biggie is away. He and his dog Perla, that some of you might remember, she was on the road in Paroikia for some time last winter, before being picked up and sent to Germany for adoption, came especially to help out and do this job.

Beau and his mother
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009
These two friendly dogs showed up at a home near Agios Anargiros in Naoussa. The mother (?) of about 5 years of age has 2 broken toes and might be the female that showed up at the same location before Christmas. Before Barbara could go to look for her she had disappeared. Her coat was very tangled, which indicates that she is not a dog that was well kept and might not be missed by anyone…. But then again, they are a lovely pair and maybe somebody is looking for them? The couple who found them at their home is taking care of them until the end of January, when they leave for Athens.
Momo sent a letter
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009Momo, a puppy looking like a little punk, who lived in Paroikia some years ago with his mother and his brother (see slide show Before-After, Lisa and her pups), sent this letter. In the photo he is vacationing with other dogs and their owners and he is remembering his youth in Paros and the time he spent with Barbara before being rehomed. Here is what he and his owners wrote:
Liebes „Paroshunde“-Team,
