Coming from Kakapetra, found in Sotires

Coming from Kakapetra, found in Sotires

This dog had been wandering around Sotires for the past week. Today it was brought to Barbaras by a friend (4-legged…) The female comes from Kakapetra. Was she lost or was she abandonned. Who can help us answer this question?

Little Family from Glyfa

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

A mother and her 2 pups were found in Glyfa. As we all know, a dangerous place for strays. Some locals there do not think twice when they see a stray dog. The mother is still very young and her pups will grow to be large.

Unlucky weekend – can it get any worse?

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Too many dogs, sick puppies, water pipes leaking at Biggies home, Biggie losing 50 Euros, Barbaras mobile phone falling into a bucket with water when she was cleaning up the mess from the puppies (RIP Nokia…)

LETS ALL HOPE THIS IS ONLY A TRIBUTE TO THE GREAT, WONDERFUL, SUCCESSFUL DAYS THAT ARE COMING UP NEXT!

Cats growing in trees?

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

We got a phone call about a large dog that had shown up at a family home and was chasing all their cats around. They had tied up the dog and wanted us to pick it up. The distressed owners who had lost the male asked the Vet and were given Barbaras phone number. The dog and his family were happy about their reunion the same night.

Sweet Arte is dead

Sweet Arte is dead

Sometimes this work is so difficult. Being called to an emergency and not being able to help in the end. This dog was so sweet and friendly and it was terrible to realize that her nervous system had been damaged by canine distemper to a point where there would be no cure. So who could be the person to ‘own’ such a wonderful animal without spending just a little money to vaccinate her, and then, when she got sick, just dump her on the beach??? I would really like to know. But then, to what avail?

Lying paralized on the beach

Lying paralized on the beach

Arte was found in Livadia by a young man involved in Art. He was walking along the beach in Livadia and noticed the friendly, but paralized, female shepherd, probably about 7 months old. Luckily enough, Barbaras sister and a friend of hers were also strolling along the beach on this clear afternoon. One word led to the other and soon after Barbara went to pick up the female. The dog will be seen by the vet tomorrow morning and we hope that something can be done to help her. How long was the poor dog there for? Had anybody seen her before Wednesday afternoon?

Tiny Pup found by long time resident

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Patricia, a long time resident and animal lover who unfortunately has to leave the island due to medical problems, found a little pup outside her house under the Garbage screaming at the top of its lungs on Sunday morning. Barbara went to pick it up. We were tempted to name it Fonazi.

NOP – NO more Puppies!!!!

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Of course, the Navtiko Omilo of Paros, or NOP, has nothing to do with all the dogs being abandonned next to them and ending up with them. After the 6 puppies that had been left there on the 12th of November, who would have expected another 2 on the 18th???

Incredible Fairy Tale

The puppies at home, before being abandonned

The puppies at home, before being abandonned

An animal lover told Barbara about a case in her neighbourhood, Glisidia. The female dog old, having puppies twice a year, tied on a short chain. The owners, what a surprise, agreed to have the female sterilized by PAWS. When Barbara picked up the dog for the operation, she photographed the puppies from the last litter. After the operation the female went to Barbaras house for recovery. The next day, the animal lover in Glisidia noticed that the puppies were missing (after all, she was the one, who had been feeding them!) The owners said, that the puppies had been taken to the people who wanted them. Barbara worried, because she suspected that they had been abandonned somewhere, where they would never be found. But then, the next day, what happened?? Paramythia, Fairytales…. One of the puppies was found left on the main road(!) near Tassos Pet Shop and the other on Tassias terrace in the old town. And only one person to link the pups to the mother and the owner…

Dogs and Cats together, a very sad story…

The grey kitten on the left side died

A little kitten that had been rescued in Naoussa and had been living at Barbaras since September, growing up with puppies, eating with puppies, sleeping with puppies, got into the fenced-in area with the large dogs somehow and we did not notice before it was too late. A terrible accident. We had to bury the kitten yesterday.
