Another Handful

On the main road between Parasporos and Agia Irini, Biggie found a large male German Shepherd barely able to walk. He has been with us for almost a month. He is much better now and has become surprisingly agile.

Contaratos Bay Watch

In July we were called to this hotel, German tourists wanted to adopt a shy but friendly dog. Conti, as we call him, could not travel right away due to a skin condition. We have not heard from the tourists since… Now they know he is safe and do not seem to care any longer. Conti is a very agile dog and loves to jump throug windows, on tables etc… in other words: a sweet handful.

More Garbage in Kakapetra

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

When Lydia was taking her dog for a walk, she heard a kitten complainig in the garbage container. We wish to believe that it fell in and was not thrown in. It is now staying with the one remaining puppy, unfortunately the other ones did not make it.

Some of the very young animals that were found last month did not make it, even though we tried. The puppies that had been found near Portes Club, Naoussa, all died, as well as the tiny kitten found on Christinas balcony.

Panhellenic Animal Welfare Federation

It is a campaign to let every owner of a dog or a cat rescued in Greece express his indignation to ignorance that gives leverage to rumours about a traffic of dogs in Europe and who wish to “protect” the Greek strays by holding back their only chance to stay alive by finding a loving home.

The campaign was triggered by an abusive ministerial circular to all ports and airports of Greece warning about traffickers disguised as animal lovers that are travelling with more than 2 dogs.
Oddly enough this is pretty much the image of animal welfare workers who already have a difficult and ungrateful job to do.  Now they are going to be suspected of trafficking on the grounds of nothing more than rumour and gossip!

If you are the happy owner of a dog rescued in Greece, please participate to the campaign CONDEMNED BY THEM, SAVED BY US
