Labrador Happy End

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

The Labrador found two weeks ago was adopted by a local family who lost a Labrador over half a year ago. We hope he will be happy with them and they with him!

Sweet Cyclop

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Barbara had a phone call about an unwanted dog, that had been left at a shop. The dog supposedly had some eye problem and had been tied up at the shop two days ago already. The sweet little female was full of fleas and ticks (the spots on her forehead are ticks…) and if her eye gets well again it will be a miracle…

Epagnel Breton

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Living on an island with no game at all we still have an active hunting crowd – a very popular pastime here. Therefore we have many unwanted hunting dogs. Avra, a little Epagnel Breton showed up at a Greek family summer home about 12 days ago. They had to leave for Athens, found Barbara and delivered the sweet little female today. As she could not be incorporated into Barbara’s group, she is now staying with Biggie.

Puppies thrown away

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

How is it that people on this island seem to think it is legal/correct/humane to put little creatures to the garbage? An animal lover who works as a truck driver and was delivering a load to Aspro Chorio found 8 little puppies near the garbage. Two of them had been run over. Another one did not make it. The other five were brought to BarBigs by the finder’s fiancee who will adopt one of them and try to help as much as possible in rearing them. Two went home with Biggie and three are at Barbara’s for the moment.

Poor dog from Naoussa

The poor dog is just skin and bones

The poor dog is just skin and bones

How many people drove past this poor dog lying at the streetside on a very busy peripherical street in Naoussa, near the Laundry, before Christoph picked him up? How come nobody but him stopped and called? No water, no food…. Somebody said they had seen the dog some days earlier and thought, he belonged to someone……(!)

Two dogs found on main road to Naoussa near Ragoussis Bakery

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Last night, those 2 dogs were running unaccompanied in the middle of the main road. The police, who happened to be driving by, had to stop and get them off the street, as they were a traffic hazard. A woman living next to the scene collected the 2 dogs and kept them on her balcony for the night. She contacted PAWS and Barbara went to collect the dogs this morning. Does anyone know where those 2 dogs belong?

5 throwaways picked from the rubbish by shocked tourists

the kittens are camera-shy

the kittens are camera-shy

Those 5 little kittens were found  in one of the parkings in Parikia.

A young couple from Athens found them near to the rubbish bin, left their to die by dehydration by some despicable person. Would they have know the stress that they were going to experiment on Paros, they might have preferred to choose another destination for their holidays. Anyway Paros will remain forever for them the rude place where unwanted new born kittens are thrown away in the rubbish.

For those cases PAWS cannot do much; it wouldn’t be possible to rescue all those hundreds of lifes that come to this world by mistake. Only effective spay/neuter at least in every neighborhood were cats are being fed might bring back to tolerable levels the overpopulation of cats.

Family relieved from a wandering Pitbull gets angry with PAWS

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

As it often happens, the police called early this morning and asked PAWS if someone could help catching a Pit-bull that has been terrorising a family in Kakapetra during the whole night. Apparently the dog had killed a few rabbits and damaged some of the toys of the kid.

Like if she wasn’t enough overwhelmed, it took Barbara 15 minutes to get there and pick the dog and another 10 minutes to find out to who he belonged and to bring him back home.

Once more the situation was dealt with properly and everyone should have been happy.

Oddly enough this time it was some of the members of the victim family that switched their panic of the dog into anger against PAWS who had just released them from their problem. Without any logical or understandable reason.
Like if PAWS was to be considered responsible for the existence of dogs! Foolish story!

The dog showed no sign of aggression when collected by Barbara

One is beautiful, the other plain. One is a pain, the other a gain. Both left. Biggie is happy.

Scooby is back

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Yesterday, Biggie found him (we used to call him Hooch) in Paroikia, drinking water that had spilled near the public bathrooms. He had gone missing from his former home months ago. He is with Biggie for the moment.
