Lost and Found

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

The mother of the 9 puppies (see July 6th) was lost from the place where she had had her puppies about 2 weeks ago and we believed her dead. Luckily, she showed up at a house in Kamari last night and was brought to Barbara today. She is a beautiful and friendly Husky-Mix of about 1 year.

Little family in Aliki

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

We were contacted by the DIKEMES summer programme group staying in Hotel Narges in Aliki. A female dog had shown up with her two puppies and the group of students and teachers were taking care of them. One of the teachers adopted a puppy, but they worried about the the other two – what would happen after their departure? Biggie went and collected the mother and her second pup on the day the group left for Athens.

Another Coincidence??

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Sometimes I cannot believe it is all a coincidence. When Biggie was driving home after a ‘dog errand’ in Aliki, she passed a garbage container between Aliki and Farangas. And when we drive, we notice things at the roadside, we cannot help that. So she noticed three little Ducklings cuddling up under the Garbage thing and stopped. They were weak and close to dehydration. She picked them up and after a refreshing drink and bath they were brought to Alkioni. They can be adopted from there and can easily be kept in a big, shady garden.

Farewell to 8 Doggies, Welcome to 1

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

8 dogs were allowed to leave for their new homes and have arrived there already. One of our dog escorts found a little male dog at the Santorini airport and begged Barbara to take him home with her so he could get a chance to be adopted by a family as well.

Oh those nights on the ferry!

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Isn’t it just so romantic… spend a night on a ferry in the Aegean, with a sleeping bag, the stars sparkling above. Barbara took 8 dogs to Santorini, they had been adopted and travelled to Germany to spend their future happily with their new families. Volunteers, please step forward!

Male hunting dog from Agia Irini

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

A couple vacationing in Agia Irini was joined by a friendly male hunting dog who stayed with them for all their 3 week holiday. When they left, they asked BarBigs to take in the dog, as their busy schedule does not allow them to adopt a dog themselves.

Too many puppies

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Two months ago, a stray female showed up at a family home on a hill near Tripiti. One day later, she gave birth to 9 puppies. Instead of contacting us right away, the people waited until now, and expect us to solve the problem. Getting 9 puppies ready for adoption will cost PAWS close to 600 Euros, not counting the transport (boxes, ferries, taxis, flights etc.) Not counting all the effort that will go into rehoming them.

Puppy found in Dilion

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

This male puppy was found near Dilion. A family called, said the puppy was probably wounded. It had an infected wound on his cheek that had been caused by a grass seed. It is staying with Biggie and the wound is healing perfectly. Very soon he will be ready for adoption!
