This beautiful young dog was on the loose in Filizi. One night he obviously bothered some farmer’s chicken. It is unknown to us how far he went… Barbara went to pick him up. He could not stay there any longer, to dangerous for him and the chicken!

4 puppies were found deposited in front of the Pet Shop today. 2 of them were adopted by customers. The Pet Shop is not allowed to keep animals there for commercial purposes any longer and we are glad about that. Therefore the puppies needed to go. Barbara picked them up tonight.

Try to imagine a remote area. A riverbed, a valley off the main road in Marathi, a dirt road, not many cars driving by. Two small puppies were abandonned there months ago (read Paros Life, Animal Talk, May issue!). A kind Greek man drives by once a day and feeds them every day for months on bread (!)… They are about 6 months old now, Barbara and Biggie heard about them recently and went to find them today. They were too shy and had to be given a tranquilizer. They are now at BarBigs and we hope that they will adjust to their new lifes soon! 

We discovered and caught 3 little kittens that were hiding under a large pile of branches and foliage next to the garbage bin on the main road where it turns off to Petaloudes. No houses close by, no mother cat. From time to time the town maintenance people come and collect these heaps with heavy machines - we wanted the kittens out before that happened. They were shy and had to be caught. Some boiled chicken was a good bait and one after the other went into the net!

  A family from Holland found 4 newborn kittens in the garbage and decided to give it a try. They did very well and managed to get them through the first week. Now that they are leaving the island they called PAWS. The former president of PAWS took in 2 of them and Biggie is taking care of the other 2. Biggies assistant Zippo is very keen on helping with cleaning up and licking their little tummies and behinds so they can go to the toilet.

10 days ago, 4 puppies were found in Livadia with their eyes still closed. The finders and hotel owners decided to give them a chance and bottlefeed them, until they are big enough to eat alone and can go to Barbigs and be entered in the rehoming programme. They have openened their eyes in the mean time and are doing just fine.

Do you remember Skin & Bones from Aliki? Can you imagine that a dog could even be skinnier? One showed up in Angeria, he is in a worse state but you can only know when you touch him. His coat covers the unbelievable condition he is in. Jasper turned up in Angeria at a British couple’s house. Obviously, he did not have much time left. He started eating slowly and we will have to find out, whether starvation was his only problem or whether he is sick as well. He is staying with the couple until they leave, which will be in a week’s time. Then he will move to BarBigs and hopefully turn out to be a healthy dog…

Unfortunately, Jasper did not make it. He died today. Farewell, Jasper, we wish you a better life if you believe in reincarnation.
